Self-Tanning Commandments

Do-it-yourself (DIY) tanning has been a go-to home treatment for women in faking that sun-kissed glow, and Fake Bake self-tanning products are a customer-favourite! If that vacation is still weeks away, you might want to take it into your own hands and create a healthy glow to your skin. Here are our tips for a flawless application:

Do Other Things First

If you need to shave or wax, do it at least 24 hours before you self-tan. These treatments can remove the self-tanner when done afterward. So, it is ideal to do them before even starting.

Prep the Skin

Before applying self-tanning products, it is essential to prepare the skin for more color. Exfoliating sloughs away the dead skin cells. Exfoliate the skin with a body scrub to prevent rough patches. Focus on the knees, ankles, and elbows.

Afterward, moisturize your skin before applying your tan. Slather on your moisturizer from head to foot. Remember to let your skin absorb the extra moisture first.

Wear Gloves

Orange hands after a fake tan do not look pretty. Protect your hands with a mitt or a pair of gloves. Just apply on your hands when you are done with the rest of your body. You can purchase a Fake Bake tanning mitt for smooth application on yourself, or you can use disposable, powder-free gloves to achieve a similar result on yourself or a client.

Proper Application

When applying your self-tanner, make sure you apply from the bottom up.  Just use a small amount at a time. This technique can replicate a gorgeous glow. Start from your ankles and work your way up with circular motions. Ensure that you move around in front of a full-length mirror so you won’t miss a spot, and leave the Fake Bake self-tanning product enough time to dry.

Fake Bake tanning products make self-tanning easy, fun and safe. They are available at Intercosmetics.
